Centenary Foundation Awards Presentations
2020 Dux, Georgia Flavel with Centenary Foundation chairperson, Barry Vogt.
I would especially like to acknowledge the outstanding work of the Foundation who support our students as they make the transition to tertiary study and further training. This year, approximately under $30,000 was awarded. A highlight of the evening was the acknowledgement of the 2020 DUX – Georgia Flavel.
Presenting this year's scholarships provided an opportunity to reflect back on the year that was 2020. This put a spotlight on the significance of the results that the year 12's achieved. In a year of uncertainty we saw a cohort of students and staff experience education like we have never seen before. The persistence and resilience of our senior students through the global pandemic cannot be understated. There was a strong partnership with the school that has seen this group collectively achieve results that they should all be proud of.

Retiring Governing Council Members
On behalf of the school community I wish the recognise the contributions of and service of Sarah Johnson and Lorinda Bailey. Special mention to Grantley Bell who has been on the Gverning Council for 7 – 8 years and has contributed greatly to the school, of special note is his work and involvement in the ongoing improvements to landscaping and retaining that is such a feature at Kapunda High.
The 2020 Annual Report was presented at the meeting and is an overview of the ‘health’ of the school with NAPLAN and SACE data and the PIVOT student survey included.
Upcoming Berry Street Training for Staff
A reminder that we have two consecutive Staff Development days (aka Pupil Free) coming up on Thursday, 4 March and Friday, 5 March. All staff will be involved in training to support Kapunda High School becoming a Trauma Aware School.
The Berry Street Education Model is a progressive training program that enables teachers to increase engagement with challenging students and successfully improve all students’ self-regulation, growth, and academic achievement. Ultimately we believe this will support the educational outcomes for all students at Kapunda High School.

Youth Opportunities & The Adam Scott Foundation University Scholarship
Youth Opportunities partner with The Adam Scott Foundation to award a Youth Opportunities graduate a University Scholarship which covers their degree up to the value of $75,000.
Sophie McDougall, a Kapunda High School graduate and 2018 Youth Opportunities graduate, was one of five graduates shortlisted to be interviewed for the Adam Scott Foundation University scholarship and has been successful in being awarded the scholarship.
This means she will be able to complete her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) at UniSA with their full tuition fees paid for by the Adam Scott Foundation in partnership with Youth Opportunities, so she will graduate without any HELP debt, and will be supported throughout her studies.
Sophie impressed the panel with articulating her personal leadership, confidence, resilience, motivation, and commitment to her goals shown by how much she has planned and thought ahead to how she’ll be successful. We hope this scholarship will not only change her life, but also her family’s, knowing they have that burden of future debt removed and our team backing them every step of the way.
This is the second year in a row that the Scholarship has been awarded to a Kapunda High School student - last year’s recipient was Chloe Dabrowski.
Kapunda High School are helping to create and support exceptional young people in our community and we are so proud to partner with the school's endeavours.

The Year 10 Art students have begun the term with a still life task. They have created their own still life arrangements from props in the classroom. The students then photographed their arrangements with consideration of composition and the importance of good lighting. The students have experimented with different editing using Photoshop to gain some foundational skills and then used traditional methods of drawing to render their still life into a black and white sketch. The class has been focused and their efforts have paid off with some fantastic results!

Hello! I'm Lara Shaw, and I am the acting Learning Support Coordinator for Term 1, 2021, behind Liz Gary-Smith.
I've been working at Kapunda High School for seven years, in the HASS and English faculties. While I am only in this role for the Term, I have already enjoyed working with our excellent team of SSOs and getting to know the students we work with. I'm learning a lot about all the ways KHS supports our student. I am looking forward to the rest of the term, continuing to learn from and work with our SSOs and students.
