A reminder that the DayMap Parent Portal provides parents and caregivers with access to additional information on your child's progress. Parents can use the portal to connect with teaching staff if they have any concerns or questions.
Students are also encouraged to contact their teachers out of class time using DayMap – especially when they are having difficulty with the learning. This is a great way of alerting teachers where there is a problem, however they should not expect an overnight response.
Some Uniform Reminders
Now that we are into winter, it has become apparent that a small number of students have been caught ‘short’ – perhaps no longer fitting into last year’s uniform.
Key reminders include:
- Pants must be plain navy or plain grey – not black and no stripes or large logos
- Non-uniform ‘hoodies’ are not permissible – even when worn under the school polo shirt.
See below for clarification re uniform items:
If your child does not have a school jacket or ‘hoodie’, please order through Devon Clothing.
Mobile Phone Policy Review
KHS is currently undertaking a review of our personal technology and mobile phone policy. An important part of the process is to seek feedback from our parents and staff. Depending on the feedback from our school community, decisions will include the identification of specific times when students are restricted, or permitted to access personal technology before and after school along with specific times across the school day. Staff will be consulted regarding the use of personal technology for learning purposes and off-site activities such as camps and excursions. With year 7 students starting at Kapunda High School, there may be different permissions or restrictions for each of the student year levels, within the secondary cohort.
We invite all parents and caregivers the opportunity to provide feedback either through the survey below or via an email to the following email address: dl.0779.info@schools.sa.edu.au

Show Preparation
The Adelaide show is on again this year and Kapunda High School Ag Club is in full swing getting Merino wethers and Boer goats ready for the show. There are eight sheep that students are working with, four supplied from the Palmer family at Manoora and four supplied from Humble Farms Pty Ltd. There are two Boer goats supplied by Kapunda Chevon. Students are working hard three lunch times a week getting the animals used to being led on a halter. Mother's Day we had two bottle fed lambs join the school – Lulu and Lilly. These have been a big hit with several students. There will be regular updates on how the students and animals are going leading up to the Adelaide Show.
AgXtra
Each year, AgXtra runs a crop competition where schools and Adelaide University compete. AgXtra does all the hard work running the Crop trial competition, and the school teams supply what grain to grow and fertilizer rates at planting and at two different growth stages. Last year, Kapunda High School competed against Kadina, Trinity, Balaklava and Murray Bridge High Schools. The Year 11 and Year 12 Agriculture students participated, and the teams ended up placing 1st and 2nd place in the crop competition. It was a fantastic effort by both teams.
The current Year 12 Agriculture students were presented with the crop competition shield by Edwina Cockburn. Well done, everyone!
Cows Create Careers
At the start of the year, Ag teachers were informed that Dairy Australia would no longer continue sponsoring the ‘Cows Create Careers’ program. It was fantastic that SADA Fresh came on board and sponsored this great program. Kapunda High School Year 9 agriculture students have been participating in the program. Two dairy calves (Alfalfa and Darla) from Jersey Fresh spent two weeks here at school, where the students had to feed and care for them each day. Paula Kernich, from Jersey Fresh came and spoke to the students about how the farm operates and answered questions about the dairy industry. Students have been working on writing scientific reports on the calves, writing a letter to the dairy industry and either constructing 3D models or making videos. The students have been working quite hard on their projects. The presentation was to be held face-to-face this year, however with the COVID restrictions occurring in Victoria, the presentation will now be via Zoom in the next few weeks.

Agriculture teacher
Recently, our year 10 students and a number of students from other secondary schools attended a presentation by the Community Safety & Resilience unit from SA Metropolitan Fire Service. Members of our local MFS also attended.
Doorways 2 Construction Carpentry students have been working on frame construction is week.
From time to time, common illnesses become prevalent amongst our students. Though the school promotes regular attendance, if a child is unwell, and particularly with communicable diseases such as gastroenteritis or influenza, parents are encouraged to keep them at home.
This will help prevent other students and staff from becoming unwell. It will also reduce discomfort for your child, as there are limited facilities at the school to care for them.
If a child is ill while at school, parents will be contacted.
Thank you for your support with this matter.
Visitors to the school are reminded to sign in at Reception on arrival.
It is an important process. (Our school staff and students need to be able to easily identify visitors to the school or indeed, intruders.)
It should also be noted that visitors are not permitted to attend the school for the purpose of socializing with students during the school day.
KHS relies on various methods of communication between the school, students and their families to relay information about learning, student well being and numerous other topics. In order to do this, our family records must to be accurate.
In the event of an emergency - for example, medical or an extreme environmental event such as the Pinery fire, KHS endeavours to communicate with families promptly and in whatever way is effective and efficient.
This can be extremely challenging, if not impossible, when contact details are not current. When this is realised, every effort is made to seek alternative, even round-about ways of making contact eg through emergency contact persons or known associates.
If you've changed your mobile phone number, email or other details, please contact the school.
