Flexible Learning
We have once again entered into a phase of online learning as a result of the state-wide 7 day lockdown. Our staff have spent Wednesday preparing for the delivery of an online program to our students. We are asking families to support students at home by encouraging them to access online materials through Daymap and attend scheduled online lessons.
During this time, there is still a requirement for the school to monitor attendance and engagement from every student. Staff are able to monitor students who have and have not accessed Daymap notes each day and all staff will be required to record attendance at scheduled online lessons.
We do understand that in some circumstances, connectivity and reliability or access to technology can be a barrier. If you are experiencing these difficulties with learning from home, please contact the school as we may be able to offer support. This may be in the form of tech support or providing alternative learning materials for your students.
A number of circulars have been emailed to families with additional information, and Daymap remains the gateway for all students and be complemented with ‘live lessons’ and ‘live check-ins’. Please click on the following link to view KHS Flexible Learning Guidelines for Students and Families Learning from Home/Learning from school:
Importantly, a 'skeleton' staff will be on site and any central staff who can’t work from home in support of sites are essential workers.
Congratulations to Dani and Corey Ryan
I would like to extend warm congratulations to Dani and Corey Ryan who are the proud parents of a new daughter, who arrived during the holidays. We wish them well as they begin a new chapter as a family and hope Dani enjoys her time on maternity leave.
Staffing Updates
There have been a number of staffing changes that have taken place with the semester change-over. Congratulations to Hayley Laney who will be backfilling Gordon Lehmann's role in STEM/Science/Technology Assistant Principal for the remainder of the year. Congratulations also to Tony Gabb who will continue in the role as Maths Leader for the remainder of the year. Tracy Warner will continue in the role of Deputy Principal and Megan Samain will continue in the role of SACE/Senior School Assistant Principal. We welcome Dusty Mickan who will be backfilling Dani Ryan's role for the remainder of the year, Josh Earle will continue backfilling Brad Westley's role for term three, Brad Innis will continue backfilling Bruce Hall's role, following Bruce who has taken a position in Central Office. We also welcome back Tony Cameron, who is covering Gordon Lehmann's teaching load while he is on leave.
Building Development
Although the COVID shut down may impact the building works timelines to some extent, prior to the lock-down the building works have remained on track. We are still expecting to be able to start using the new middle school space sometime this term with carpet layed, and furniture in classrooms at this stage.
Year 12 Holiday Seminars
I would like to acknowledge the teaching staff who offered their students the opportunity to come in and work at school at various times during the holidays – providing individualized and small group support.
Similarly, I would like to congratulate the students who made a decision to attend a holiday session here at school and/or attend a school funded seminar conducted in Adelaide. In addition to the holiday sessions, I would like to acknowledge the staff, students (past and present) along with parents who have given up a significant amount of their holidays to continue preparations and rehearsals for our school musical production, led by Brett Ferris.
Advanced Notice
Friday, September 3 will be a Staff Development Day/Pupil Free Day, this will provide an opportunity for staff to continue preparations for year 7 students entering High School and Middle School curriculum planning. Direct Bank Deposits to Kapunda High School
In recent years, some families have taken advantage of scheduling payments using online banking to pay school fees and other school expenses such as camps. This is a convenient option for families and avoids students carrying large sums of money.
Once scheduled payments are arranged with a financial institution, families should monitor to avoid over-payment of invoices - for example annual school fees. Schools are unable to offer a credit facility and are required to refund over-paid amounts as soon as practicable.
Country Education Foundation Grants
Senior Students!
Country Education Foundation Grants
Applications open 1st August – close 30th September 2021
The KAPUNDA HIGH SCHOOL CENTENARY FOUNDATION is again offering several new Country Education Foundation Grants, this year totaling $20,000.
These grants are to provide financial assistance to current senior students who apply, outlining their educational and training goals and a specific area where they may require help to achieve these goals. Last year’s round of grants varied from $1,000 to $2,500 per awardee.
Current and former students of Kapunda High School who have attended the school for at least the last two years of their high school education, and who are under 25 years old on 1st January, 2022, are eligible to apply for these grants.
Successful grant recipients may also be eligible to receive additional financial assistance through the Country Education Foundation of Australia Partnerships with individual universities through a co-funding agreement. This year an additional $16,000 was made available to Kapunda students through this partnership.
Applicants are required to complete a thoroughly researched, formal application on-line and to undertake an interview with the Selection Panel if they progress to the second round of selection.
Students are advised to endeavour to obtain written references that will best support their application from teachers, employers, sporting coaches or other suitable persons. Please allow plenty of time for the referees to help you in this way. Please ensure you have electronic copies of these references so you can forward them along with your application. You will also need to obtain electronic copies of your Year 11 and Year 12 reports.
In normal years an Information Session for Year 12s would be held around this time to further explain the grant application process. Due to COVID restrictions a date for this cannot yet be finalized.
Meanwhile, further information and the application process can be accessed via the Country Education Foundation of Australia website: www.cef.org.au Applicants can commence the process at any time after the 1st August, and progressively save their input until they are entirely happy before finally submitting their application.
When Kapunda High School has re-opened following COVID lockdown, a further information sheet may be obtained from Front Office or the Year 12 Co-ordinator.
Applications close on Thursday 30th September 2021
CEO of Sandy Days Beach Resort, Toby Woods, accepting the ABW award from Matt Green of Marshall & Brougham
Australian Business Week was held in week 9 of Term 2.
A Trade Display in the gymnasium on the Friday was a huge success for all businesses with staff, students as well as Mayor Bill O'Brien and Matt Green of Marshall and Brougham attending.
Though the winning company was Sandy Days Beach Resort; The Green Lotus Hotel, Hotel Eden, Shady Oaks, and Barossa Doorstep, led by CEOs, Poppy Brady, Brielle Bliss, Georgia Malkin and Jess Both respectively, all put in a tremendous effort to present their exciting trade displays to the school community in the gymnasium on the final day of the competition. Guest judges were Mayor Bill O'Brien and Matt Green of Marshall and Brougham.
Kapunda High School extends our sympathies to the Crockford family for the recent sad passing of Mr Ken Crockford. As a former teacher at KHS, Ken loved our school and all it stood for. He was a kind teacher with great enthusiasm for Physical Education and a wicked sense of humour. Our heartfelt condolences go to all of the Crockford family members, especially Cristina, Elisio and Alun, who are KHS old scholars.
Staff were once again triumphant in the staff versus student netball games at the end of Term 2. Though year 12 students fought hard, the experienced staff teams took the games by storm!
