Noah Ralph, Maddison McMahon, Poppy Brady & Noah Seward at Kapunda RSL Remembrance Day ceremony
Last week, I was fortunate to be part of the year 10 mock interviews as part of the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) – a compulsory subject in the SACE. Students prepared resumés and cover letters and then were interviewed by local employers and members of the community. I was impressed with the level of preparation from the students and the conversations about their involvement in extra-curricular activities such as part time work, Cadets, CFS and work experience. Well done to our staff for their organisation, and a big thank you to the community members who kindly donated their time to be part of the interview process.
Yesterday, four of our Year 11 Prefects represented KHS at the local Remembrance Day ceremony in Kapunda. Our student leaders took the opportunity to lay a wreath on behalf of all the students at our school. The students interacted positively with a range of special guests and were outstanding ambassadors for our school.
ADVANCE NOTICE – Staff Development Day
Monday, 29 November
Our Governing Council has approved this date for our final school Staff Development (aka Pupil Free) day of the year. The focus will be on collaborative moderation of year 8-10 assessment tasks, further work on preparations for 2022 along with a short presentation from the Department for Education Social Work Incident Support Services.
Charges 2022
Governing Council is recommending that the Materials and Services Charge be $470 for 2022. This is an increase of $10 from the 2020 charge. Families have been sent information about the polling process, which closes on 16 November. If you have any questions please forward them to Mrs Sue Coppin.
While the funding from the Government covers the major items of expenditure, including salaries, building maintenance, cleaning costs, basic administration, etc, contributions from families are very important in balancing the budget and providing a range of programs such as Youth Opportunities, and Healthy Minds as well as additional resources to support student learning.
BYOD in 2022 – Long Term Loans
If you wish to be considered for a long term loan of a school device as a current student, you need to complete an application form by Thursday, December 12.
Please note that priority for long term loan devices is those families experiencing financial hardship.

Principal
Volunteers play an important role in our school canteen, the Kidman Kafe, being able to offer a wide variety of healthy food to our students and staff at recess and lunch times. Volunteers are encouraged to come and help in our canteen - even for an hour. Assistance during the peak preparation times, between 10:00am and 2:00pm would be most valued and appreciated. And of course, a regular commitment would enable Canteen Manager, Maree, to better plan the menu in advance.
What hoops do I need to jump through?
Yes, there is some paperwork and some legal requirements such as completing the online Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN-EC) course and having a Working With Children Check (WWCC). Mrs Sue Coppin, our Finance Officer, can assist with beginning the process of applying for the WWCC, which is free to our volunteers. There will also be a general induction with the Department for Education and we will share other important information before you begin.
School volunteers must also show evidence of COVID-19 vaccination.
Call the school and ask to speak to Maree at the canteen if you'd like to learn more about the kind of help our canteen requires, or if you're keen to begin, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Ann Richardson, by email: ann.richardson395@schools.sa.edu.au or by phoning the school.
On Wednesday and Thursday last week, KHS held its annual Mock Interviews for Year 10 students as part of their Personal Learning Plan (PLP). This provided students the opportunity to prepare resumés, cover letters and portfolios prior to the interview conducted by a local community member in the school’s Resource Centre.
Students found the experience rewarding and invaluable as they prepare for life after school. Congratulations, to all students who participated and special mention to the winners of each 'job'. I would like to thank the volunteers who gave their time to be involved. Thank you also, to Randall Murch (SAPOL), Kristy (OTR), Angie Berryman (Johnson’s), Kimberley McWaters (Light Regional Council) and Matthew Green (Marshall & Brougham).
