Please note that Hats are not required in Term 2, unless for specifically identified activities, for example PE Class, Excursions or extended outdoor activities.
I thank you for your partnership in upholding our Conditions for Learning and contributing to the fine culture of success at our school. Please remember to communicate with the school if you have any queries about our Conditions for Learning or your child requires further support.
Let’s keep working together to ensure an environment where every young person can learn, grow, achieve and strive for their best.
School Rebuild Update
Our School Rebuild is progressing well, with the design phase completed and the tendering process underway. We look forward to sharing more news with you in the near future when possible.
Over the school holidays we are undertaking work to further improve on our school facilities. This includes working with the Light Regional Council to explore further options and opportunities to make school access even safer for students. This is in addition to the raft of works recently undertaken, including designated school crossings, revised speeds, increased signage and moving all staff cars off-road to a purpose built staff car park to make drop off / pick up more streamlined. We will continue to keep the community informed as this work progresses and we thank you for your part in keeping the roads safe for our students.
We have in place and are also working further towards students having a number of enriching opportunities with the school rebuild, including:
- Heritage Trades involvement.
- Doorways 2 Construction involvement.
- Design & Technologies class involvement.
- Contributing works towards our future School Re-build Exhibition, to be housed within Eringa.
Finally we wish all KHS students, staff and families an enjoyable and safe end-of-term holiday ahead.
We look forward to welcoming students back for Term 2 on Monday 29th April.

Last Wednesday our athletics team participated in the Secondary School Athletics Championships at the SA Athletics Stadium in Mile End. This year we competed in division 1 in the C grade competition. After a successful Lower North Carnival in week 8, we were able to take a strong team into the competition. Throughout the day our athletes performed exceptionally well against some tough competition, achieving many top 3 placings. Students will receive certificates for these at our assembly once they have been sent out. There were several students who had to pull out due to injury leading up to the event. However, the willingness from our athletes to step up and fill in was a great highlight and strength for our team, which contributed to our overall success.
At the end of the day both our boys and girls teams finished on top, resulting in our school being the overall combined winner in our division. This capped off a very successful term of athletics for our school. A huge congratulations to everyone that has been involved in our athletics program!
Next term the statewide school sporting competition begins, with various football, netball and basketball competitions taking place. Further details for these events will be placed in the daily bulletin throughout the term.

Class of 1974- 50 Year Reunion
On Saturday the 23rd of March, 14 past students and their partners met at the Kapunda High School for a 50th reunion.
We picnicked on our old school grounds, very different to 50 years ago. Comments about how things have changed and how lovely the gardens are now circulated most of the weekend.
All but two of the original prefab buildings are additions since our school year of 1974. We are a class that all came from the Kapunda Primary School, some by bus from around the district and remained around 20+ students all through our high school years.
Tim Jones and Shaun Hausler, along with Paul McCarthy spent time showing us around the school. From the extensive Ag program and the much-envied Technology centres, past students were excited about what our old school had achieved and now offered. A very obvious credit to past and present staff and leadership.
We all knew of the fire in “Eringa” but left feeling that the rebuild and development happening around “Eringa” will once again be somewhere we will recognise and be proud to visit.
Paul McCarthy is one of our past teachers and added much to the weekend we all enjoyed remembering and reliving events from our year. Paul gave us a small history of the building adding to a wonderful day.
Thankyou for taking time out to welcome back past students, some travelled a long way to join us.
The weekend started on Friday night for a meal in one of the local pubs where a student used to live, then a visit to the railway station where another student lived, and finished off with a BBQ at a past students’ property. We were all still enjoying remembering events when the weekend ended.
Thank you for ”Our school years”.

Kapunda High School has been very fortunate to have Emi Yoshida Sensei from Okayama, Japan working at Kapunda High for term 4, 2023 and term 1 2024. Emi was an excellent ambassador for Japanese language teaching and learning at Kapunda High School. On Emi Sensei’s final day at Kapunda High, the Year 8 Japanese class was able to make sushi. The students enjoyed making and eating sushi with some students discovering that wasabi is very spicy. Emi Sensei created many positive learning experiences and excellent impressions of Japanese people and culture while she was at KHS.

The Year 11 and Year 12 Art classes attended an excursion to the SACE Art Show and Art Gallery of South Australia in Week 10. The SACE Art Show displayed a range of work from paintings, sculpture, video, fashion, graphic design, architecture and more. The students were positive about the experience and were very impressed by the quality of the SACE artworks and folios. This excursion helps students get ready for their major art project by showing excellent examples of the type of work students are able to choose and create for their own products. Afterwards we visited AGSA to see the Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Inner Sanctum as well as the permanent collection.
