Year 12s: End of School Year
Congratulations to Year 12 students, who have had their official last day of Year 12 subject lessons on Friday 25th October. Well done on your dedication and efforts throughout your final year of studies. On behalf of our school community, we wish you the best of luck and much success for your final assessment tasks and exams. We look forward to celebrating your achievements and successes in the near future.
AI Trial: EdChat Proof of Concept Trial
In the spirit of Innovation our school has been fortunate to be part of the EdChat: Proof of Concept Trial over 2024. In Term 3 we rolled out the EdChat trial with a selected group of teachers and classes. This was highly successful as a co-learning tool, so we decided to increase access to the tool for all staff and students. Using EdChat students and staff can undertake learning by accessing information in different ways such as to: summarise, interpret, analyse, scaffold and explain concepts in further detail. While EdChat is a useful co-learning tool, it cannot replace research and validation of information. Using EdChat ethically and appropriately is part of the learning as we work through the Proof of Concept Trial.
- The EdChat Proof of Concept Trial is a unique learning opportunity for our students and staff, with the Department for Education being the first jurisdiction in the world to embrace an innovative approach to this technology. EdChat has been designed with many safety-guards in place, the Department for Education ICT Team has won an iAward for their foundational work in this area.
Site Learning Plan 2025
The Purpose for Public Education Strategy outlines a bold vision and plan to grow education for every young person in South Australia from world-class, to world-leading.
Each school is empowered to develop a strategic plan using the Public Education Strategy, to grow according to the unique local context, strengths and aspirations of our community of learners.
SA Training Awards: Kapunda HS Most Innovative VET Program in 2024
SA Training Awards: Innovation in VET
At the end of Term 3, our school was invited to the South Australian Training Awards as one of three finalists in the state for the most innovative VET program. I’m pleased to share that Kapunda High School has been awarded the Vet Innovation in Schools prize for 2024. This is a significant undertaking for our school, demonstrating the excellence in education which students at our school receive. Well done to all involved!
In theme of Public Education Awards, we are pleased to celebrate that Ms Karen Bromley has been recognised as one of three finalists for Innovative Teacher Award. The awards ceremony is on Friday evening, 1st November where outcomes will be announced. We wish Ms Bromley all the best!
Colin Thiele Collection Donation
On Friday 25th October, we hosted a visit from Mr Kim Michelmore and Ms Malinda Melbourne, from Port Macquarie NSW. The purpose of their visit was to donate a collection of the entire works of Colin Thiele to our school. Kim has spent over 25 years amassing this collection – one of few in the world. The works will be featured in the re-built Eringa building, in the very places where Colin Thiele learnt, studied and wrote as a Senior Student in the 1930s. The significance of this kind and generous act cannot be understated and is a great source of inspiration and aspiration for our students.
Good luck to all of our Year 12 students who are studying and preparing for their final exams and assessment tasks. We wish you all the best over the coming weeks and look forward to celebrating your successes.

Kapunda High School Presentation Evening 2024
Kapunda High School has had another eventful and successful year, with many new and exciting learning opportunities for students. Our annual Presentation Ceremonies gives us the opportunity to showcase the talents and accomplishments of our students and honour their hard work and dedication over the 2024 school year.
In order to do this, we rely very much on the generosity of local businesses, community members, community organisations, parents and staff of Kapunda High School, to support us. In the past we have been very pleased with the response to our invitations calling for donations to enable the whole community to be part of our school’s success.
We now have pleasure in inviting you to make a donation towards our awards in 2024 for the amount of $30. The school recognises students in years 7-11 with awards for Academic Achievement, Student Recognition (previously Improvement), Consistency, All-rounder and School Citizenship. The top student of each year 12 subject, achieving at a B+ or higher, is awarded a Subject Prize. Your contribution will go towards a $30 voucher for a selected student(s).
The prize will be awarded at our annual Presentation Ceremonies. For senior school students this will be on Monday, 9th December 2024 and middle school students will be presented awards on Tuesday 10th December 2024. In appreciation of your generosity, all donors will be acknowledged at the Presentations, in the event program and the school newsletter. This is a small way for us to express our gratitude for your support and to highlight the community spirit that makes our school special.

Farewell to Our Year 12 Students: A Week of Celebration and Memories
As the academic year draws to a close, we bid a fond farewell to our Year 12 students. The final week was filled with a series of exciting events, creating lasting memories and celebrating the journey of our senior students.
The festivities kicked off with a vibrant Group Themed Dress-Up Day. Students showcased their creativity and camaraderie by dressing up in various groups. The school grounds were a spectacle of colour and imagination, reflecting the unique spirit of our Year 12 cohort.
The fun continued with a Water War on Tuesday, where students engaged in a friendly battle armed with water balloons and buckets (and a sneaky water slide!). The event was a refreshing break from the usual routine, and the laughter and joy were infectious.
In a nostalgic twist, students participated in a Dress as Your Younger Self or in your Year 7 uniform day. It was heartwarming to see the students donning outfits reminiscent of their childhood, complete with pigtails, overalls, and favourite childhood accessories. This event allowed everyone to reflect on their growth and the journey from childhood to young adulthood. Staff commented that it felt like transition day all over again.
Wellbeing Breakfast
A special breakfast was planned from our Wellbeing team on Wednesday. Students enjoyed bacon and egg rolls and pancakes to start the day, as well as some lawn games to mark their last week of school. Thankyou to the Wellbeing team for providing breakfast to all the year 12s.
Staff vs Students Volleyball
The week wouldn't be complete without some friendly competition. The Staff vs Students Volleyball match was a highlight. The game was closely contested, and the cheers from the sidelines added to the excitement. It was a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to bond and enjoy some light-hearted fun.
Assembly Farewell
The school community came together to farewell the Year 12 students in a heartfelt assembly on Friday morning. The assembly featured speeches from teachers and students, reflecting on the journey and achievements of the graduating class.
Staff Provided Morning Tea
To finish off the week of activities and to show their congratulations and best wishes, the staff organised a special Morning Tea for the Year 12 students. The spread included a variety of delicious treats, and it was a lovely gesture that highlighted the strong sense of community within our school. The morning tea provided a moment of relaxation and reflection before the students signed out for the final time.
Upcoming Exams
A reminder that exams will commence from Monday, Week 4, on the 4th of November. The exams will be held in rooms H1 and H2. We wish all our Year 12 students the very best in their exams.
Presentation Night
Lastly, we look forward to celebrating the achievements of our Year 12 students at the Presentation Night on Monday, 9th December. The event will start at 7:00 pm, with guests expected to arrive by 6:30 pm. A rehearsal will be held on the same day for the students from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. We encourage all students and their families to attend this special evening as we honor the hard work and accomplishments of our graduating class. More details about tickets will be emailed soon.
End of Year Results
End of year results will be released on Monday, 16th December at 8:30 am. We encourage all students to check their results promptly and reach out to the school if they have any questions or need further guidance.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 12 students and the journey they have undertaken over the past 5 years at High School. This final week of celebrations has been a fitting tribute to their time at Kapunda High School. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this week special for our Year 12 students. Your support and dedication are greatly appreciated.
We wish them all the success in their future endeavors and look forward to seeing them shine in their exams and beyond.

Kapunda High School SRC students held their final meeting for the year with the Year 12 prefects in Week Two, where we acknowledged and thanked them for their outstanding contributions to our school community. We also recognised the contribution of all SRC members and their efforts throughout the year. Their leadership and input helped the school to raise funds for FightMND, Childhood Cancer Association, and funds for improving the school environment. Other highlights from this year included organising the Staff Vs Student Football Match, Thing-a-thon, facilitating school Open Day, the fundraising for the BBQs at the swimming carnival and sports day. As the Year 12s prepare to graduate, Year 11s will take over leadership of the SRC until Week 6, after which the Year 10s will step in to continue supporting the student voice for the remainder of Term Four.

Our Year 12 Art students have been hard at work bringing their creative visions to life, showcasing an impressive range of talent and skill. This year’s cohort has explored various mediums, including digital art, photography, painting, charcoal, and printmaking. Some students also ventured into three-dimensional works, crafting intricate models with the aid of 3D printing and laser cutting.

The results are a testament to their dedication, creativity, and hard work, providing a meaningful culmination to their school art journey. Open Music Academy Discovery Day
On Friday 18th October, the Year 10 and 11 Music classes went on an excursion to the University of Adelaide Elder Conservatorium of Music. This was a follow up excursion for the Connection Day students participated in at KHS last term. Students went on a tour of Elder Conservatorium, and also attended a lunchtime concert.
The Year 11 Biology class were treated to a presentation of the Ediacaran Period by Mrs Cameron (and her new baby), who visited the Flinders Ranges in July school holidays. The students were able to put the theory they've learned throughout their schooling into this context and had fun doing puzzles and making "fossils". A big thank you to Mrs Cameron for taking the time to come and talk to the Year 11s!

Year 12 Food and Hospitality Luncheon
On Tuesday 15th October, the Year 12 Food and Hospitality class hosted a luncheon for KHS Staff. The meal included entree, mains and dessert. There was very positive feedback from staff who said the food was delicious and impressively presented. This was the final task for the class.
Villawood William Lakes Immersion

Students have been benefitting from Career Education and visits to William Lakes, as well as from guest speakers to our school. The Construction Industry is in high demand, with a wide range of jobs such as Trades, Engineering, Architecture and Design.
Congratulations to Year 11 student Haylee for receiving the Term 3 Remaking Eringa Award.Haylee received this award as recognition for her hard work restoring the Kidman Coachhouse. Haylee worked alongside a team of students in our Heritage Trades program, with the mentorship of Christian Frenzel, a highly experienced Stonemason.
Year 11 Tourism Class Excursion to Adelaide
On October 29th, the Year 11 Tourism class embarked on an exciting and educational excursion to Adelaide. The trip was designed to provide students with firsthand experience of key tourist attractions and to enhance their understanding of the tourism industry.
Central Markets Visit
The first stop on our itinerary was the iconic Adelaide Central Markets. Students were immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of the weekly market, which is renowned for its diverse range of fresh produce, gourmet foods, and unique local products. The visit allowed students to observe the bustling environment and understand the significance of such markets in promoting local tourism and supporting small businesses. The sensory experience of the sights, sounds, and smells of the market was both educational and enjoyable for all, with many purchases made.
Adelaide Zoo Experience
Following the Central Markets, the class visited Adelaide Zoo. Here, students attended an educational talk that focused on the role of tourism at the zoo and the institution's efforts towards becoming regenerative. The talk provided valuable insights into sustainable tourism practices and the importance of conservation efforts. Students learned about the zoo's initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint and promote wildlife preservation, aligning with the principles of responsible tourism.
Overall, the excursion to Adelaide was a resounding success, offering our Year 11 Tourism students a practical and engaging learning experience. The knowledge gained from visiting the Central Markets and Adelaide Zoo will undoubtedly enrich their understanding of the tourism industry and its impact on local communities and the environment.
We look forward to more enriching excursions in the future!

Year 9 Japanese Class: Exploring Japanese Cuisine
This term, our Year 9 Japanese students delved into the history and techniques behind Japanese cuisine. As part of their studies, each group researched and selected a popular Japanese dish to recreate, applying the knowledge they gained about authentic ingredients and cooking methods.
Students prepared the following dishes from scratch:
- Sushi: Teriyaki Chicken & Tuna
- Gyoza: Japanese dumplings
- Karaage: Japanese fried chicken
- Japanese Strawberry Shortcake
This hands-on experience not only gave students a deeper appreciation of Japanese culture but also honed their practical cooking skills. Their dedication and teamwork resulted in some delicious creations!
