Final Weeks Term 1
As we work through the final weeks of Term 1, we encourage students to make every effort to learn, grow and achieve their best. Please reach out and work in partnership with Subject Teachers to discuss any queries and negotiate proactive strategies to help students grow their learning and achievement.
Governing Council
Our next Governing Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 2nd April at 6:30pm.
This is our first regular meeting for the 2025 school year and there are many positive initiatives to report on, including growth in our student learning experiences, wellbeing and engagement initiatives.
ERINGA Update
If you have driven past the school in recent weeks you may have noticed progress on the roofline of Eringa. Major works on the chimneys is nearly complete and work has commenced on roof truss installation in preparation for roofing to commence. Our new classrooms have the steel framework up and there is rapid progress across the entire site.
I am looking forward to a productive end to the term with a focus on student achievement and learning. I would like to acknowledge the significant work of our staff, the efforts of our students and the great support from our community across the start of 2025.

Tourism Excursion to Adelaide Hills
On Wednesday 19th March the Year 12 Tourism class left the classroom behind to be a tourist in the Adelaide Hills. We had an itinerary of Whispering Wall, The Big Rocking Horse, Melba’s Chocolates, Wrights Cheese shop, Beerenberg Strawberry Farm and Hahndorf Main street.
In true tourist form we had a slight detour due to Google Maps, and then some added excitement with a fire in the Williamstown area after we left from Whispering Wall.
It was a tiring day for the students, where they were looking forward to going home for a nap! It’s hard being a tourist!
A huge thankyou to Cindy Ruediger and Naomi Argent for driving and I hope the families are all enjoying the chocolates and strawberries that were delivered home!
The students will now have to produce a promotional video for the Adelaide Hills to promote the area to visitors.

Students are to use cash and a physical bank card only for payments at the Canteen. If this is not possible, students are urged to use the QKR! app for ordering prior to 8:30am each morning. This remains the best way for students to guarantee their desired lunch/recess items will be available to them each day.
Academy for Enterprising Girls
I am really pleased to share the success of the recent Academy for Enterprising Girls (AEG) workshop, where students from Years 8 to 11 had the opportunity to develop and showcase their entrepreneurial skills.
Throughout the day, seven teams of young women worked collaboratively to generate innovative business ideas, create prototypes, and deliver pitches—all within the given timeframe. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and engagement were evident as they embraced the challenge with determination.
The atmosphere in the room was incredibly positive and productive. Students thrived in their groups, collaborating effectively, problem-solving, and presenting their ideas with confidence and pride. It was truly inspiring to see their passion for entrepreneurship come to life.
The workshop provided an invaluable experience for our students, reinforcing essential skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, and public speaking, all within a structured and supportive environment.

During Weeks 4 to 6 the Year 11 Sports Studies classes came together with the new Year 7s to host a miniature Olympics. The entire event was planned and hosted by the year 11s, with groups in charge of coordinating workload, media/communications and individual events.
Each group worked extremely well to create a positive environment and support them throughout events like shotput, discus, javelin or sprints.
The track and field events were conducted first, on Monday and Tuesday in Week 5. All the students did three events each as a group, rotating around the oval. On the Thursday, they did a novelty event inside the gym where both Year 7s and 11s joined together in three teams to navigate an obstacle course as fast as they could, all racing against each other. On Monday Week 6 the last two events, three-legged race and over and under, were run. The three-legged race was conducted on the blue soccer court and over and under, on the oval all the years 7s competed well and put all their effort in. At the end of all the novelties and track and field events the winners were announced for boys and girls.
The boys winners were:
1st: Lucas Gilling
2nd: Carter Rewell
3rd: Jaxon DiMauro
And the girls winners were:
1st: Callie Browne
2nd: Lucy Bennett, Madelynn Sanderson, Chloe Whittenbury-Shanahan
3rd: Willow Hansen

Unveiling the Mysteries of the Brain
Year 9 Exploration of the Nervous System
As we wrap up our fascinating journey through the nervous system, our Year 9 students had the unique opportunity to participate in a brain dissection. This hands-on experience brought to life many of the concepts we’ve explored in class, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of the brain’s structure and function.
During the dissection, students identified key parts of the brain, including the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem. They were able to observe how the different lobes of the brain contribute to movement, thought, and sensory processing. Many were amazed by the intricate network of nerves and the complexity of this vital organ.
Engaging in this practical activity reinforced key ideas about how the nervous system functions and how messages are transmitted throughout the body. It also provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop their scientific inquiry skills, teamwork, and curiosity about human biology.

Throughout Term 1, our Year 11 students have been helping the Year 7 cohort transition to High School through our Peer Support program. Every second Wednesday during long home group, the Year 11s have run activities for the Year 7s to participate in. Peer Support is an amazing way of ensuring a sense of community and belonging can be instilled in our students from the very beginning.

Milan Swimming Success
Congratulations to Year 9 student Milan on his recent success at the 2025 South Australian Age Swimming Championships. Milan represented the Barossa Swimming Club, and competed in six events, progressing to the finals in all. Milan went on to win the Bronze in the 100m Freestyle. He also got his second National Qualification time, he will now go on to compete in the 2025 Australian Age Championships in Brisbane. Amazing effort Milan!
This is an amazing achievement, well done Rylee!
Year 12 student Kaylee recently completed her JDRF 'Jump for a Cure'. Since last year, Kaylee has been raising money for the Type 1 Diabetes research foundation JDRF. Kaylee committed to a skydive over Semaphore Beach in February.
Kaylee managed to raise $3335, well exceeding her goal of $1500.
Kaylee's team, 'The Incredibles' raised a whopping $34,064.
In February, Kaylee completed her skydive! She said "it was a great experience, no words can describe how amazing it was, can't wait to do it again next year!"

Kaylee wanted to express her gratitude for everyone who supported her fundraiser, including community members, staff, students and anyone who bought a sausage from her sausage sizzle.
Amazing work, Kaylee!
