We commend Elijah Smith and Ashly Cocks; both receiving A+ for Research Project
From Our Principal
Outstanding Research Project Results
Earlier this week the Year 12 students who submitted their Research Project at the end of Semester One were notified of their results.
Research Project is a compulsory subject which all students need to successfully complete to achieve their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Students can choose to do either Research Project A or B. Most students planning on a university pathway select Research Project B.
Once again Kapunda High School Research Project results exceeded the State average.
57% of our Research Project A students gained A or B grades compared with 41% across the state.
100% of our Research Project B students gained A or B grades. 59% gained A’s compared with 36% across the state.
A special congratulations to Ashly Cocks and Elijah Smith who achieved A+ grades in Research Project B.
Shania Chenoweth, Christie Chenoweth, Chloe Dabrowski, Lucy Drewett, Lauren Fawcett, Shakira Pollard, Kelsi Toet, Abbey Trotta and Corey Wall all achieved ‘A’ grades for Research Project B while Adam Mills and Olivia Muster gained ‘A’s for Research Project A.
Another fourteen students achieved A- grades.
‘SPOTLIGHT – The Musical’ – Get Your Tickets
Cast and crew of Spotlight! The Musical
For the past six months, twenty of our students from Year 8 through to Year 12 have been rehearsing in readiness for four performances next week.
Under the direction of Mrs Christie Bridge, the students look forward to performing to large crowds at the Chapel Street Theatre, here in Kapunda.
Whether your child is involved in the production or not, I strongly encourage you to support these budding actors by getting a group of friends and family together to see the show.
Suitable for all ages, tickets are priced reasonably at $10 and are available at Kapunda High School Reception or at the door.
With three evening performances on Wednesday through to Friday and a matinee performance on Friday afternoon, we hope that you can find a time that suits you to attend.
Pleasing Term 2 Results
As a school we closely monitor the achievement of our students and set targets for A-C% and A/B% at each year level.
We also look closely at the ‘effort’ grades.
On both criteria, I was pleased to note that grades had improved from Term 1.
It was great to also present over 110 students with ‘Personal Best awards at the end of the term. Forty students achieved ‘excellent’ effort for all subjects and another seventy students ‘excellent’ effort for most (with just one or two ‘good’ efforts).
Communicating with Teachers out of School Hours
The ‘busy-ness’ of our lives and the ease of online communication means that many parents make use of email and DayMap to contact teachers out of school hours.
Personally, I find it most convenient to send a message late at night or on the weekend.
While it is not unusual to receive a reply from a teacher at night or on the weekend, it is certainly not something that we, as parents, can expect.
It is far more likely that teachers will respond to parent communication when they are at work.
ADVANCE NOTICE: Pupil Free Days for Term 3
Monday, August 5 will be a
Staff Development Day. The focus will be on our literacy priority
(vocabulary) and formative assessment.
Monday, September 2 will be a School Closure –
Royal Adelaide Show Day
Tuesday, September 3 will be a Staff Development
Day.
Congratulations
We received news earlier this week that our Assistant Principal (Pedagogy, Learning Support and Learning Excellence), Elizabeth Gary-Smith has been re-accredited as a Lead Teacher.
This is a national process that sees teachers present evidence that aligns with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at the ‘Lead’ stage. Lead teachers are not only exemplary teachers within their own classes, but also have significant impact on the development and practice of other teachers and support staff.
Lead and Highly Accomplished teacher accreditation was introduced in 2014 and Liz was one of the very first in South Australia to be accredited.
Hayley Laney (who is currently on maternity leave) was accredited as a Highly Accomplished teacher in 2018.
